SOME 50.1 percent of Slovaks plan to take part in the upcoming regional elections, in which the councillors and heads of eight Slovak higher territorial units (VÚC) will be chosen for the next four years.
According to a poll carried out by the Focus agency between October 5 and 11 on a sample of 1,060 respondents, 17.3 percent of people will definitely or probably not take part in the elections. The rest expressed no interest or had not yet decided.
Some 38.9 percent of those who declared they lacked interest or were undecided about the VÚC elections said that their vote would not change anything and expressed their disappointment with the current political scene.
A further 21.4 percent of respondents stated that they knew nothing about the candidates.
