JUST one-third of Slovaks would prefer own entrepreneurial activities to the status of being a regular employee, analysts of Poštová banka point out in the latest Chart of the Week bulletin referring to a Gallup survey, the TASR newswire reported on October 9.
The results have placed Slovakia into the bottom third of all European nations in spirit of enterprise.
Moreover, only 1 percent of Slovaks wanted to launch their own entrepreneurial activities over the next 12 months, which was the lowest figure in all 25 EU countries that took part in the survey. Czechs, Italians and Austrians have a similar approach - on 2 percent each, while the Cypriots showed the boldest entrepreneurial spirit on 11 percent.
“Not only Slovaks but also Europeans are not too keen to launch their own business,” reads Poštová banka bulletin, as quoted by TASR. “Only 4 percent of citizens in whole European Union plan to carry business which is relatively low [number] in comparison with world wide average which is at level of 14 percent.”
Slovaks who did want to launch their own business stated personal independence as the most significant positive (56 percent), followed by freedom in decision-making (27 percent), and the vision of higher income (more than 20 percent). Conversely, Slovaks were most afraid of bankruptcy, irregular income and loss of their property due to their entrepreneurial activities.
