Despite the many discounts shops are using to lure customers before Christmas, Slovaks will spend their money prudently, she said. According to the poll, people are not planning to spend more than €350 for Christmas gifts.

Expenses on gifts were higher a year ago than they will be this December according to another survey carried out by Deloitte. Slovaks expect to spend €435 on gifts, food and activities during the Christmas holidays in 2010 and this sum was €480 last year. According to Štefancová, most people in Slovakia also decide on gifts on the basis of price, discounts and loyalty discounts.
