Slovaks win at Water Sports Championship in Poznan

Slovakia's Peter Gelle won a sensational silver medal at the Men's K-1 500 metres Sprint race at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Poznan, Poland on Sunday, August 22, the TASR newswire wrote.

Gelle finished with a time of 1:38,961, half a second after Swede Anders Gustafsson, leaving behind Olympic champions Adam Van Koeverden from Canada, Tim Brabants from Great Britain and Ken Wallace from Australia.

Ivana Kmeťová and Martina Kohlová won the bronze medal in the Women's K-2 200 metres at the same world championship also on that day. The Slovak duo repeated their showing at the Flatwater Senior World Championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada from last year.

Kmeťová and Kohlová finished behind the Hungarian pairing of Natasa Janics and Katalin Kovacs in first place and Poland's Marta Walcykiewicz and Ewelina Wojnarowska in second this year.
