BRATISLAVA ice-hockey team Slovan won the deciding seventh match of the Slovak Extra-League final at their home stadium on April 11, beating HC Košice 3:2. The result meant that Slovan successfully defended their Champion's title, the ČTK newswire wrote.
The Košice team, which managed to draw level in the best-of-seven-matches final despite having lost the first three matches, was trailing 0:3 by the 53rd minute of the final match. But it raised the stakes dramatically in the space of two minutes, first with a goal by Juraj Faith then another, in the 55th minute, by Laco Ščurko, lessening the difference to one goal. But Slovan repelled the final attack of the visiting team and won its seventh title in 10 years.
In addition, the Bratislava team's players broke an ill-fated run as Slovak champions during which, for the last six years, they have never won on home ice.
