Most of the honours at the 2013 Journalism Awards organised by the Open Society Foundation went to reporters of the Sme daily, Týždeň weekly and TV JOJ private TV channel. The winning journalists were awarded in 14 different categories. The jury considered 618 entries by 380 authors, ranging from articles in newspapers, regional articles and broadcasts to blogs and commentaries. The awards were presented at Bratislava's Danube Cultural Centre (KC Dunaj) on Tuesday, April 23.
The award for the best newspaper feature was won by Týždeň's Andrej Bán for his feature 'Turkey without Europe'. The prize for the best feature in the electronic media was awarded to Darius Haraksin and Martin Krpač from TV JOJ for their piece 'The Story of Ivana Boórová'. Sme reporter Mária Mihaliková's interview 'Angyalová: My partner and I are trying to be good parents' was assessed as the best interview. Andrea Vadkerti from TV news channel TA3 received an award in the category of best interview and discussion in the electronic media for her 'Portrait of Nicholas Winton'.
Martin Hanus and Jozef Majchrák from Týždeň received a prize for the best analytical and investigative article for their feature 'The Constitutional Court'. The award for the best analytical and investigative broadcast in the electronic media went to a series entitled 'Black Swan' broadcast on TV JOJ. The prize for the best newspaper commentary was collected by Peter Breiner for 'I've tried both, they can't be compared' published in the Sme daily. The best article issued in the form of a blog series was written by Radovan Branik and was called 'Slavery on the streets of Bratislava', published on blog.sme.sk. The award for the best photograph went to Marian Peiger of the SITA newswire for his photo-coverage of the Gorilla protests. The prize for the best feature photograph was collected by Michal Burza from the Nový Čas daily for his 'Dolina Mine' series.
TV SME's Pavel Graus, Lukáš Kodoň and Miro Šifra were awarded the Google Prize for Innovative Professional Online Journalism for their project 'Manual for using The brain' broadcast on TV SME. In addition, the jury awarded two special prizes – one to the recently deceased Vladimír Jiránek for his extraordinary contribution to cartoon journalism, and the second to a group of Týždeň reporters – Eva Čobejová, Martin Hanus, Lukáš Krivošík and Jozef Majchrák.
