The former head of the National Property Fund (FNM) state privatisation agency, Anna Bubeníková, who lost her job earlier in the year over suspicions of misconduct linked to revelations in the so-called Gorilla file, has told police that a payment she received in 2009 came from a lottery win, the Sme daily reported in this morning's edition.
Sme, which was unable to confirm the amount involved, reported that Bubeníková claimed she had picked up the win on behalf of a relative from Topoľčany, in order to protect his privacy. Her lawyer Milan Hrbek said there was nothing suspicious about her move.
Police investigators have been looking into Bubeníková’s income in association with the Gorilla file, an unverified document purporting to contain transcripts of covertly recorded conversations between senior public figures, including Bubeníková, and businessmen dating back to 2005-06. Some of the alleged conversations refer to payments of bribes in return for the influencing of specific government decisions, including privatisations.
