THE OPPOSITION Smer party has gained support for the recall of Education Minister Martin Fronc and PM Mikuláš Dzurinda. The opposition Slovak Communist Party (KSS) and Free Forum (SF) have promised their support, the SME daily reported.
Thus Smer can now count on the support of 39 MPs to support the planned no-confidence votes in parliament planned for May. However, for a no-confidence vote to be valid, 76 votes are needed.
According to Anton Blajsko, deputy chairman of another opposition party, the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), it is possible that HZDS will also back the no-confidence votes.
"We will certainly behave as a true opposition," he said.
Smer also wants to discuss the issue with independent MPs. However, unlike the KSS, the SF does not want early elections to be held even if parliament recalls the PM. According to SF chairwoman Zuzana Martináková, the cabinet should be reshuffled.
