IF national elections were held on October 16th and 17th, the opposition Smer party would have won, taking 25.4 percent of the vote, according to a recent poll.
The MVK market-research agency poll showed that another opposition party, Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), led by former PM Vladimír Mečiar, would be second with 15 percent, and the ruling Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) third with 13.1 percent, the TASR news agency wrote.
However, 22.6 percent of respondents did not know which party to support, and 17.5 percent said they were not planning to vote.
Another ruling party, the Christian Democrats (KDH) would get 10.7 percent, and current Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), received 8.8 percent support.
The Slovak Communist Party (KSS) scored 6.5 percent and the ruling New Citizen's Alliance Party (ANO) had 5.6 percent, just above the five percent threshold needed to qualify for parliament.
