Had a general election been held at the turn of October and November, the governing Smer party would have gained 49.3 percent of respondents' votes, according to the results of an opinion poll released by the Median agency on Wednesday, December 12.
Behind Smer came the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) on 10.4 percent, Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) on 8.9 percent, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) on 7.5 percent, the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) on 6.0 percent, and Most-Híd on 5.6 percent, the TASR newswire reported. The Slovak National Party (SNS), on 3.5 percent, and the Hungarian Community Party (SMK), on 3 percent, would both have failed to win seats in parliament. Daniel Lipšic's New Majority (NOVA) party was not officially registered when the poll began and was therefore not included.
More than 57 percent of the poll's respondents said they would have gone to the polls, while 12 percent were undecided. The poll was carried out between October 15 and November 11 on a sample of 1,011 respondents aged 18-79.
