The governing Smer party has begun considering who it would support for the post of general prosecutor if President Ivan Gašparovič fails to appoint General Prosecutor-elect Jozef Čentéš, the Hospodárske Noviny daily reported on Monday, Ocotber 29.
"Yes, if the president acts according to what he's declared, he won't appoint Čentéš, in which case a new vote will have to follow. Three or four names have been raised so far," the daily was told by a senior Smer member under the condition of anonymity. In this regard, the source disclosed that among the names are Special Prosecutor Dušan Kováčik, and Eva Mišíková, who has already been put forward for the post by the Christian Democratic Movement, Freedom and Solidarity and Most-Hid parties.
When approached by the TASR newswire, Kováčik said via his spokesperson Andrea Predajňová that he is not considering running for the post. Mišíková revealed that she might consider it, even though it is not her priority at the moment. Former general prosecutor Dobroslav Trnka also said that he has not given any thought to his possible candidacy.
