THE CURRENT ruling coalition would not have been able to form a government if parliamentary elections had been held in early February, according to a political survey carried out by the Focus polling agency.
Smer, currently the largest opposition party in parliament, attracted 43.2 percent of preferences in the poll, followed by the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) with 15.2 percent and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) with 10.2 percent. Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) received 9.1 percent, while 6 percent of respondents said they would vote for Most-Híd. The Slovak National Party (SNS) would have been the only other party to make it to into parliament, with 5.4-percent support.
Based on the poll results, Smer would get 73 seats in parliament, very close to the 76 needed for a majority in the 150-seat chamber, while the SDKÚ would get 26 seats, the KDH 17, SaS 15, Most-Híd 10 and the SNS nine.
The survey found that 19.3 percent of those polled would not participate in an election and 12.9 percent were undecided or did not say whether they would vote.
