A NEW survey of voter support for political parties in Slovakia shows opposition party Smer in the lead with 26.6 percent respondent support, followed by the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, former Slovak PM Vladimír Mečiar’s party, with 15.7 percent.
Following the two biggest Slovak parliamentary opposition parties is the ruling coalition’s Christian Democratic Movement with 11.7 percent, and the Hungarian Coalition Party with 11.6 percent. PM Mikuláš Dzurinda’s Slovak Democratic and Christian Union came next with 8.1 percent support.
Sixth place went to the nationalist (not parliamentary) Slovak National Party, which earned 6.8 percent. The Slovak Communist Party, another opposition party, got 5.9 percent of support while the ruling coalition’s New Citizen’s Alliance trailed with 5.7 percent.
According to the TASR news agency, as many as 19.8 percent of the respondents said that they would not vote at all, while 15.4 percent said they were undecided.
Conducted by the public opinion research institute with the national Statistics Office, the survey interviewed 1,284 respondents between November 1 and 8.
