SLOVAKIA’S largest opposition party, Smer, enjoyed greater support at the end of October than it did a month earlier, according to the results of a survey carried out by the Median SK polling agency.
While a month before Smer had received 36.2-percent support from respondents, it got 39.5 percent in the latest survey, the SITA newswire reported. The ruling coalition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) came second with 18.2 percent.
A total of 40.8 percent of respondents to the survey confirmed that they would definitely participate in an election, and 28 percent said that they would rather take part than stay away. Another 21.9 percent were certain they would not vote at all.
Support for the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) grew moderately from the previous survey to 11 percent, while support for Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) slipped to 8.1 percent.
The Slovak National Party (SNS) recorded 7.8-percent support, and Most-Híd 7.7 percent. No other party exceeded the 5-percent support threshold needed to make it into parliament, according to the survey.
