The Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) has confirmed that 46 party members from the Rimavská Sobota district quit the party on April 27.
Another 55 members have suspended their membership in the party, the TASR newswire wrote.
SMK spokeswoman Eva Dunajská said that the party in the area will be reorganised, with a district conference being held in June in order to select a new chairman and members of the district organisation.
“It's a reaction to the fact that the south of central Slovakia has been overlooked by the SMK leadership for a long time,” František Asztálos, formerly the party chairman in Včelince (Banská Bystrica Region) told TASR. “We also object to the fact that people who have a different opinion are not listened to in the party.”
The move, said Asztálos, is just a natural result of the behaviour of the party under the leadership of Pál Csaky since 2007, TASR wrote.
