SMK wants minister for equal ops

THE HUNGARIAN Coalition Party (SMK) will initiate the establishment of a minister without portfolio to deal with the equal opportunities agenda, with respect to women, children, the elderly and the disabled, the TASR news agency reported.

However, Slovakia's MEP Edit Bauer (SMK) does not think it is realistic to establish the post during this electoral term (ending September 2006). The SMK party has not yet discussed the issue with its coalition partners, she said.

Bauer sees shifting this agenda to the Government Office level - meaning to a deputy Prime Minister responsible for human rights issues.
