"The SMK repeatedly points out to parties of the ruling coalition and all Slovak citizens the validity of the old saying: A friend in need is a friend indeed," the SMK said in a statement provided by spokeswoman Eva Dunajská. Help in the form of electric power, for instance from Hungary, is a much more acceptable and economically advantageous solution than partial, politically problematic and economically ineffective reactivation of the second block of the V1 nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice, it said.

The SMK suggests that all Slovak political parties who are members of political groups in the European Parliament support a solution of diversified natural gas supplies for all EU member states through improvement of European systems. In this crisis, the Russian Federation and Ukraine have shown themselves to be partners who prefer their own interests to the fulfilment of international commitments, says the SMK. SITA
