POLICE dog Rasty accompanied his instructor Ján Löw to the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic in mid February for a training programme on sniffing out forged banknotes.
Five-year-old Rasty is specially-trained in finding such counterfeits, Denisa Baloghová, the Slovak Police Presidium’s spokesperson, told the TASR newswire. The police in the Czech Republic asked for international assistance in searching for counterfeit notes several years ago and the Slovak police dog discovered counterfeit banknotes worth 10,000 Czech crowns in a family house in the town of Bernatice nad Odrou.
The Czech Republic is now training Fia, a five-year-old female, to sniff out counterfeit banknotes. Because of the good cooperation in the past, the Czech police requested the three-day cross-border training, involving both theoretical lectures, practical field exercises and testing of the specially-trained dogs.
“Rasty managed all tasks within the training in an exemplary way,” Baloghová stated in praising the skills of the Slovak sniffer dog.
