Weather forecasts have been fulfilled and snow has covered some parts of Slovakia sending road maintenance workers in Poprad to clean it from roads for the first time this season. During the night, up to five centimetres of snow covered the mountain pass through Spišská Magura, the SITA newswire wrote.
“We went for the first action at 2:00 and the second followed at 4:30,” Vladimír Kozák, the director of the Maintenance and Administration of Roads of Prešov Region, told the SITA newswire.
Maintenance workers have not been sent out to clean roads in the High Tatras yet even though Štrbské Pleso reported a night rain along with snow.
On Monday, the Slovak Hydro-meteorological Institute issued a warning for strong winds and snow for the entire territory of Slovakia through midnight October 14.
The strong wind has already stopped traffic on railways between Tatranská Štrba and Štrbské Pleso and Vyšné Hagy and Štrbské Pleso. Railway workers are removing fallen trees from railways, according to SITA. For now trains are replaced by buses.
The strong wind also caused problems on the road from Košice-Šaca to the mountain pass Soroška in the Rožňava district. It turned up a truck’s trailer and halted traffic in one line of the road. In particular empty trucks and trucks with only light load have problems on the roads in eastern Slovakia. SITA
