An initiative aimed at ‘blockading’ the Bratislava headquarters of the Slovak National Party (SNS), one of the parties which forms the governing coalition, and its chairman Ján Slota continued on Wednesday, May 27
Alojz Hlina, leader of The End of Primitivism in Politics initiative, claimed symbolic victory in his battle against the SNS, the TASR newswire reported. Hlina announced that he is planning to occupy the Construction and Regional Ministry building in Bratislava on Monday, June 1. The ministry was responsible for the controversial so-called bulletin-board tender which cost the former construction minister his job in April.
On Tuesday, Hlina brought down what he called the ‘SNS battle flag’ from the facade of SNS headquarters before being detained by police. He said that he wanted Slota to apologise to police officer Ľudmila Nováková, whom Slota allegedly swore at April. The activist added that the SNS didn’t manage to protect its flag, with state power having to lend the party a hand instead. Hlina therefore intends to return the flag himself, but only after the SNS replaces Slota as its leader.
Hlina is also the manager of the First Slovak Pub on Obchodna Street in Bratislava, which is displaying a prominent poster stating that 'no one currently does more harm to our country than Ján Slota'. TASR
