Slovak National Party (SNS) chief Jan Slota, who is running for the presidency in the May 15 elections, "disclosed" secret plans harbored by the Hungarian Party in Slovakia and the Hungarian government May 10 for the establishment of a greater Hungary in the year 2005.
Slota said he had secret information that a permanent coordinating council with a temporary residence at the building of the World Hungarian Union in Budapest will be involved in forming the new state. On behalf of Slovak ethnic Hungarians, Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) deputies Arpad Duka-Zolyomi and Miklos Duray would sit on the council, Slota announced. He also named other SMK members allegedly involved in the plan.
The SNS boss presented the "fact" that the Permanent Coordinating Council groups would systematically segreate the non-Hungarian population in southern Slovakia and that this activity should be co-ordinated with Hungarian representatives in Romania.
In reaction, SMK chairman Bela Bugar the SITA news agency that Slota's statements are nonsense bordering on stupidity. He denied the authenticity of the entire plan and accused Slota of playing to Nationalist sentiments on the eve of the Presidential election.
