Berényi, an MP for the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK), approached Parliamentary Secretary Viktor Stromček, informing him that according to the law and based on parliamentary protocol, Slota shouldn't get his salary for October. According to the law, if an MP misses at least four debate days in parliament or parliamentary committee sessions within one month without good reason he or she should be deprived of one month’s salary, including all bonuses, Berényi said.

Asked why he had not acted earlier, given Slota’s long record of absenteeism, Berényi replied that he had only been chairing the committee since July, and October was the first month in which so many sessions were held. At the same time, he conceded that he hadn't seen Slota at a single committee session since becoming chairman.
