Following reports in the Slovak media that the European Parliament had on April 23 held a public hearing about the Hedviga Žáková (née Malinová) case in Slovakia, Slovak National Party (SNS) MEP Jaroslav Paška, who is also a vice-chair of the right-wing Europe of Freedom and Democracy parliamentary faction, said on April 24 that neither the European Parliament nor any of its official committees had in fact dealt with the Malinová case, the TASR newswire reported.
Paška said that Party of Hungarian Community (SMK) MEP Edit Bauer organised an unofficial debate – “inviting some of her friends and other guests to the European Parliament”, according to Paška – which cannot be considered an official deliberation of the European Parliament in any conceivable way, he stated. He added that all statements emerging from the meeting were nothing but the personal opinions of those who had accepted Bauer’s invitation.
Bauer on April 23, described Malinová’s case as an injustice done to a representative of a national minority. "This is a violation of the fundamental human rights of a European citizen, which can't go unnoticed by the European Union," she said.
Malinová has been ordered her submit to a psychiatric examination at a hospital on April 30, 2013.
