The Slovak National Party (SNS) has nominated MP Ján Chrbet for the post of Environment Minister, SNS vice-chair Anna Belousovová said at a press conference on August 13.
Chrbet, who will replace outgoing minister Jaroslav Izák following a recent subsidy scandal, was proposed by SNS chairman Ján Slota, and the nomination was approved at a party leadership meeting before the press conference.
"I would like to express my thanks for the trust that I have received," said Chrbet.
"He is also an experienced manager and has spent two years as an MP," said Belousovová. "Chrbet was the first officially proposed candidate.” Slota consulted Prime Minister Robert Fico, who had no objections to the nomination, she said.
Ján Chrbet was born on July 25, 1963 in Očová (Banská Bystrica region). In 2006, he became an SNS MP and member of the parliamentary economic policy committee. Chrbet is an associate in several family businesses dealing with the processing of dangerous and other waste, the production of biofuels and the disposal of the waste created by this process. His name figures in four private companies, one of which is currently in liquidation. TASR
