LIVE audio-visual broadcasts originating from TANAP, the Tatras National Reserve, first began by digitally recording larger animal species and the broadcasts will now be enhanced with the sights and sounds of Slovak songbirds recorded in the garden area near the TANAP administration building.
“The first broadcasts were of prized Tatra wildlife species and now the broadcasts will include song- birds,” Beatrice Hudáková, spokesperson for Slovakia’s Environment Ministry, told the TASR. The ministry’s environmental protection agency and TANAP arranged for the enhanced online public broadcasts that are at www.spravatanap.sk.
“TANAP has been monitoring protected animals with solar-powered cameras. The transmission of images can be managed with modern technologies and be made available online,” Hudáková stated. This is the first time that TANAP zoologists have started to present the winter life of songbirds and they told TASR that since there is not always enough sunlight in winter the solar-powered camera also has a power connection so there are no interruptions in the bird watching.
TANAP said it hopes to educate young people and the general public about birdlife in Slovakia by recording the images from a bird feeder in its garden area.
