POLICE Corps President Jaroslav Spišiak voiced his satisfaction with the performance of the police force in the first quarter of 2011 at a press conference on April 11, the TASR newswire wrote.

Spišiak said he was particularly happy with the work of traffic police, as the number of road collisions was reduced 30 percent in the first quarter compared to 2010. He also listed police success in murder investigations and a recorded drop in property-related crimes.

“A particular focus was placed on traffic accidents,” Spišiak said, as quoted by TASR, adding that police officers had also exceeded expectations in all other indicators and posted better results than last year.

The number of minor offences dropped by nearly 1,100 in the first three months of 2011, while an additional 657 perpetrators of crimes and offences were tracked down this year compared to a year ago, Spišiak said, attributing the accomplishments to a re-organisation of the Police Corps, modifications to how police officers are paid, and changes to the career advancement system.
