FURTHER organisational changes in the national gas utility SPP will reduce the current workforce of 5,500 by as much as 10 percent in the coming months, the news agency TASR wrote.

Last year SPP worked on changes to its organisational structure. The current restructuring phase aims to stabilise and optimise the structure of its divisions.

The changes should take effect as of January 2005 and will concern several departments of the transit, distribution, and services divisions.

The transformed divisions will have several new positions available and they will be filled internally through a selection process in the second half of 2004.

Redundant employees may take advantage of compensation programmes that include severance pay, re-qualification and special training, and assistance in finding new work.

According to SPP, the restructuring process is inevitable if the company is to remain competitive.
