The director of Slovakia's SIS intelligence service, Karol Mitrík, was fined by parliament's conflict of interest committee on Tuesday, December 7, the TASR newswire reported.
Under the fine for late submission of his property disclosure, to which Mitrík may still appeal by turning to the Constitutional Court, the head of the SIS will lose one month's salary, the committee decided.
Mitrík had failed to disclose his property holdings by the end of September, though he did comply a month later. Mitrík explained this by saying that he duly submitted the document as a member of the local council in Spišská Nová Ves (Košice Region). However, the committee did not accept his argument. "The SIS boss not having enough information?" mocked opposition Smer MP Ľubomír Petrák. "Like it or not, order must be restored," said coalition KDH MP Alojz Pridal during the committee sitting.
