HOCKEY legend Peter Štastný accepted the nomination to lead the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union’s (SDKÚ) candidates to the European Parliament.
Štastný, 47, a former Czechoslovak national ice hockey representative, also played for Canada.
The Slovak daily SME wrote that Štastný does not yet plan to enter the SDKÚ but he supports the party and is known for his friendly relationship with PM Mikuláš Dzurinda.
"I think that I have enough talent and experience to be able to fulfil this [post] responsibly, honestly, and effectively," Štastný said.
The remaining SDKÚ candidates will be announced later in February.
