THE MOST-HÍD party has collected enough MPs' signatures to lodge an official complaint with the Constitutional Court about changes to the State Citizenship Act made by the previous government of Robert Fico (Smer), the TASR newswire reported on September 9.
The party, which represents the interests of Slovakia’s Hungarian minority in parliament, considers the law unconstitutional. It objects to the fact that those who apply for citizenship of another country automatically lose their Slovak citisenship.
“The complaint states that the act is at odds with the constitution and international conventions,” Most-Híd MP Gábor Gál said, as quoted by TASR, adding that such legislation cannot be put into practice.
As well as Most-Híd members, 12 MPs from the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), independent deputy Andrej Ďurkovský, and all MPs from Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party signed the complaint.
