State collects more in excise tax during first half of 2011

Collection of excise taxes in the first half of this year increased moderately compared to the same period in 2010, the SITA newswire reported on Wednesday, July 20.

Collection of excise taxes in the first half of this year increased moderately compared to the same period in 2010, the SITA newswire reported on Wednesday, July 20.

At the end of June, the state collected over €950.5 million in excise taxes, up 0.7 percent year-on-year. Excise tax collected on spirits fell by 28 percent to €96.97 million. By contrast, excise tax raised on beer sales grew 6.6 percent over the first six months to €25.941 million. Collection of excise tax on tobacco products grew as well, by 5.4 percent to €296.6 million.
