THE SALARIES of employees of public and state administrations will increase next year, based on two collective agreements which representatives of the government, municipalities and trade unions signed on November 25. While for example office clerks, police officers and social services employees will see their wages rise by €16 a month, teachers’ earnings will increase by €20-€40, the Sme daily reported.
“After salaries stagnated for three years a serious decision was made,” said Prime Minister Robert Fico, as quoted by the SITA newswire, adding that Slovakia has the third lowest wages in the European Union.
The new collective agreements will continue the benefits received by state and public employees, such as one extra week of holidays, a one-month higher severance pay, a 30-minute reduction of daily work hours and contributions to the third pillar pension plan, Fico said, as reported by SITA.
The increase in salaries of public and state employees will cost the state an additional €90 million, Sme wrote.
