Consumer prices in Slovakia rose by 3.7 percent year-on-year in July, while remaining flat on a monthly basis, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) announced on Monday, August 13.
On a yearly basis, prices were up in the following segments: transport and in education - 6.1 percent each; health care - 4.9 percent; food and non-alcoholic beverages - 4.6 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels - 4.3 percent; miscellaneous goods and services - 3.9 percent; hotels, cafes and restaurants - 3.6 percent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco - 3.2 percent; clothing and footwear - 1.9 percent; recreation and culture - 1.8 percent; and furniture, household appliances and ordinary household maintenance - 0.8 percent.
Conversely, the prices of postal and telecommunications services dropped by 0.2 percent year-on-year, the TASR newswire quoted the ŠÚ.
On a monthly basis, prices went up in the following sectors: health care and recreation and culture - 0.5 percent each; alcoholic beverages and tobacco - 0.4 percent; miscellaneous goods and services - 0.2 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels - 0.1 percent; and education and hotels, cafes and restaurants - 0.1 percent. The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, clothing and footwear and transport fell by 0.5 percent each. Meanwhile, the prices of furniture, household appliances and ordinary household maintenance and postal and telecommunications services remained flat.
