Statistics Office: EU-harmonised inflation was 1.7 percent in April

Year-on-year EU-harmonised inflation reached 1.7 percent in April, a fall of 0.2 percentage points compared to the rate recorded in March, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) announced on May 16.

Year-on-year EU-harmonised inflation reached 1.7 percent in April, a fall of 0.2 percentage points compared to the rate recorded in March, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) announced on May 16.

Average harmonised inflation for the 12-month period between May 2012 and April 2013 amounted to 3.1 percent year-on-year, 0.2 percentage points less than in March 2013, the TASR newswire reported, citing the ŠÚ. The month-on-month developments in April were influenced mainly by price hikes in the sector of food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.09 p.p.), in clothing and footwear (0.08 p.p.), in miscellaneous goods and services (0.04 p.p.), in hotels, cafes and restaurants (0.01 p.p.), and in education (0.01 p.p.).

Further impacts were due to price reductions in furniture, household equipment and ordinary household maintenance (-0.01 p.p.), in health care (-0.01 p.p.), in transport (-0.03 p.p.) and in accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.14 p.p.).
