Statistics Office: Industrial production up 2.6 percent y-o-y in May

The Industrial Production Index (IPP) was up 2.6 percent year-on-year in May 2013, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) reported on Wednesday, July 10. This was largely due to the influence of increases in mining and quarrying by 7.6 percent and in industrial manufacturing by 2.8 percent.

When seasonal effects are taken into account, industrial production went up 0.2 percent month-on-month in May. Meanwhile, IPP increased by an average of 2.7 percent in annual terms over the first five months of 2013, the TASR newswire reported, quoting the ŠÚ. Returning to May, other significant year-on-year increases were posted in the production of motor vehicles (3 percent); electronic equipment (22 percent); in textiles, clothing, leather and leather products (26.4 percent); and in coke and refined oil products (54.6 percent).

The most noticeable drops were recorded in the production of computers, electronic and optical products (8.1 percent); and in other manufacturing, repairs and the installation of machinery and equipment (17.1 percent).
