The prices of the most-frequently purchased goods and services in Slovakia rose by 0.5 percent in the first ten days after the country’s adoption of the euro on January 1, according to data from the Statistics Office released on January 20.
This was mainly due to an average price increase for consumable household goods of 4.5 percent, with the prices of mineral water, non-alcoholic beverages and juices rising by 2.4 percent, the TASR newswire reported.
Conversely, fuel prices went down by 1.7 percent, while those for meat fell by 0.3 percent. The Statistics Office is conducting consumer-price surveys of 196 frequently-purchased goods and services every ten days between August 1, 2008-June 30, 2009 with the aim of monitoring price developments before and after euro adoption.
