Statistics Office: Slovaks earned €803 monthly on average in 3Q13

THE AVERAGE nominal salary in the third quarter of 2013 was €803 per month, meaning that growth in salaries accelerated by 0.4 percentage points year-on-year to reach 2.4 percent in the same period, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) informed on December 4.

Lower increases in consumer prices compared with the growth in nominal salaries influenced the development of real salaries, which increased by 1.1 percent y/y. When seasonal effects are taken into account, the average nominal salary saw a 0.3-percent hike when compared to the figure for 2Q13, the TASR newswire reported, quoting the ŠÚ.

The highest nominal salaries were recorded in the sectors of information and communications activities (€1,585), electricity and gas supplies (€1,477), and financial and insurance activities (€1,451). The highest relative growth in average nominal salaries was posted in water supplies (7.7 percent) and in education (7 percent). Conversely, the biggest drops were in real estate (14.2 percent) and in agriculture (3.1 percent).

In terms of regional distribution, Bratislava Region had the highest average nominal salary of €1,021, while Prešov Region had the lowest figure, at €613. The average nominal monthly salary in the first nine months of 2013 reached €803, growing by 2.7 percent on an annual basis. Growth in nominal salaries accelerated by 0.5 percentage points y/y. Real salaries grew by 1 percent.
