Status Law being revised

Delegations from Slovakia and Romania met in Budapest last weekend to help script a revised status law for Hungarians living abroad. The Budapest parliament has promised to pass a new draft in December.

The law, which gives educational and cultural advantages to ethnic Hungarians living in neighbouring countries, was passed in 2001 but was heavily criticised in Europe for interfering in the sovereignty of other countries over their citizens.
