[The tabloid Plus Jeden Deň revealed on August 11 that the Labour Ministry has decided to allocate a grant worth Sk400 million (€13.28 million) to non-governmental organisations backed by a friend of Smer MP Jana Lašškáková and her son. - ed. note].

According to Štefanec, Tomanová has repeatedly shown a lack of competence since she taking up the ministerial post two years ago, and has failed to come up with any sensible initiatives for the middle class and young families.

"Exactly the opposite, we're witnessing ever-bigger scandals," he said.

According to him, the current scandal even surpasses last year's scandal surrounding subsidies for the non-profit organisation Privilégium.

"It's a blatant example of favouritism by the Smer party," said Stefanec.

Earlier on August 13, Fico expressed his full confidence in Tomanová, telling the TASR newswire that Tomanová had properly explained the Eurofund subsidies due to be handed out for social projects. TASR
