PANORAMIC pictures of more than 40 historical and natural beauties in Slovakia have become part of Google’s Street View application and Slovakia is only third country, after Japan and Poland, which can show pictures of its caves, the SITA newswire reported on February 27.
Street View contains pictures of five caves which are also on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List: the Domica Cave, the Dobšinská Ice Cave, the Gombasecká Cave, the Ochtinská Aragonite Cave and the Jasovská Cave.
“The accessible caves were attracting the public also in the past, and were among the first tourist destinations in Slovakia,” said Ján Zuskin, head of the Slovak Caves Administration (SSJ), as quoted by SITA.
In addition to the caves, Google Street View also offers the pictures from the High and Low Tatras, Banská Štiavnica, Bojnice Castle, Spiš Castle and the manor house in Betliar, among others. It also captures the zoo in Bojnice or the thermal water park in Bešeňová.
Marta Kučerová, head of the Slovak Tourist Board (SACR) praised the fact that Google did not focus only the natural beauties in Slovak mountains, but that it captured also cultural and historic monuments, like castles (of which there are more than 180 in Slovakia) and spas.
“We are convinced that even in this way the potential visitors to Slovakia will get interesting information about our country and it will inspire them to visit us,” Kučerová said, as quoted by SITA.
