STUDENTS may go on strike if parliament passes a law introducing tuition fees for university students. A protest meeting in Bratislava has already been planned, according to the daily SME.
However, the Student Council of Slovak Universities, an official national student organization, opposes the protest.
A student “strike committee” is organizing the protest.
Jana Sviteková, of the Student Council, said that some "self-declared student leaders are organizing the strike and they are having a negative impact on the development of universities in Slovakia."
The strike committee has already met representatives of the opposition parties.
Parliament is scheduled to make a decision on tuition fees on March 21.
