On Aril 14, the Sme daily reported that the STV Council is days away from appointing a new director to the embattled public Slovak Television station.

Štefan Nižňanský, a former anchor and editor with the socialist Czechoslovak Television, will most likely be appointed on April 16. Nižňanský has close ties to the governing coalition, which appoints members of the Council.

Nižňanský’s nomination was taken up over the weekend. He received eight votes, which is two short of what he needed in the first round, but exactly the number he will need in the second round. SITA
