THE OPENING of the Olympic Games in Beijing on August 8 also launched the broadcast of the sports channel of public Slovak Television, STV3. STV director general Štefan Nižňanský symbolically opened the first broadcast with a shot from a starter’s pistol, the SITA newswire wrote.
STV3 now brings live broadcasts from the Olympic Games, as well as around the clock highlights.
“We have a 33-person team in China,” Andrej Miklánek, the STV3 project manager, told the Hospodárske Noviny. Once the Olympics are over on August 25, the station will broadcast seven hours per day, from 17:00 until 24:00.
The cost of the sports channel, broadcast in the digital format, are projected at Sk100.4 million (€3,332) for the current year. Of this the state will cover Sk90.8 million. Advertisements should bring in Sk7.6 million and sponsors should add Sk2 million.
At present, about 60 percent of the Slovak population has access to STV3.
