The town of Partizánske, in Nitra Region, is reporting major problems with the supply of government-subsidised food. Despite the town authorities having fulfilled all the necessary requirements, supply of the food has been suspended, Mayor Jozef Božík said, as reported by the SITA newswire.
“Insiders inform us that all food aid has reportedly been suspended since September 2," Božík said. Potravinová banka Slovenska o.z., a civic association, secures delivery of flour and pasta to Partizánske under a government scheme to support poor families. The last delivery arrived on June 21, but there was enough for just 150 people instead of the 4,500 or more who are eligible based on their low income.
The mayor says he has tried to contact those responsible at the Agriculture Ministry to ask why the supply has stopped, but to no avail. Partizánske was one of the first towns to get involved in the government food-aid scheme.
