The number of foreigners interested in learning the Slovak language is growing, at least according to the summer language school Studia Academica Slovaca (SAS) that will open next week and run until August 22, organisers told the TASR newswire on July 30.
SAS said its 45th summer school will be among the most international with up to 170 people from 33 countries attending. The oldest student comes from the U.S and is 71 years old and the youngest is a 17-year-old Austrian.
“Among the most exotic countries represented are Jamaica, Nepal, Taiwan, South Africa and China,” TASR was told by Eva Špaňová from SAS. She said that many course attendees are either students or managers but there are also travel agencies workers, translators from the EU, and even a British European Parliament employee.
The largest number of students in the course are from Germany (16), Italy and France (15), Hungary (13), Poland (12) and the U.S. (11). Those present will also include a Macedonian, Maltese, Swiss, Australian, Serbian and a Finn. The opening ceremony and the welcoming evening takes place on Monday, August 3, at 16:00 at Comenius University in Bratislava. TASR
