Supreme Court says more anti-discrimination laws by 2002

A "major revision" of the Slovak Penal Code is underway and should be completed by the year 2002 at the latest, Supreme Court Chief Justice Štefan Harabin told a group of Danish observers in Slovakia. The observers were in the country to monitor the issue of Romany-targeted crime and discrimination.

The amendment is expected to extend the body of crimes that are viewed as racially-motivated, and will define 31 various crimes on a racial basis, Harabin said. Currently, the Penal Code devotes 15 provisions towards the protection of minorities, ethnic groups and citizens of other races.
