The popularity of Daniel Lipšic, the deputy chairman of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and Richard Sulík, chairman of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party jumped considerably in the latest poll of political popularity conducted by the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO), the SITA newswire reported. IVO surveyed 1,076 respondents aged 18 years and older between January 9 and January 16 asking them to name their three favourite politicians without being offered any choices.
Smer Chairman Robert Fico was the most popular politician (33 percent), Oľga Gyárfasová of IVO told SITA, adding that the popularity of Lipšic had improved to 7 percent compared with 4 percent in February 2010 while Sulík improved from 3 percent to 7 percent in that period. Justice Minister Lucia Žitňanská also made it into the poll this year.
Prime Minister Iveta Radičová placed second (14 percent), Smer deputy chair Robert Kaliňák was third (12 percent). Nine percent of respondents named Most-Híd leader Béla Bugár while eight percent chose President Ivan Gašparovič. Lipšic was sixth on the list, followed by Richard Sulík, KDH chairman Ján Figeľ, Slovak National Party (SNS) chairman Ján Slota and Igor Matovič, chairman of the Ordinary People party.
