The results indicate that Slovaks plan to spend roughly the same sum of money as in Christmas 2008. According to the survey, people with university education intend to spend most – €240.65 on average.

Slovak households also plan to spend approximately €138.58 on food, €20.59 on non-alcoholic beverages and €22.06 on alcohol - roughly the same amount of money as last year.

The survey attempted to ascertain whether the global economic crisis will have any impact on the pre-Christmas shopping of Slovaks. Nearly half of the people (47.2 percent of the population) will feel the impact of the crisis on their pre-Christmas shopping. However, the same number of respondents (47.5 percent) said that the crisis will have no effect and 5.4 percent couldn't decide. TASR
