ABOUT 23 percent of Slovaks are confronted with some expression of extremism once a month, according to a survey on public opinion towards violence and extremism in society, carried out by Mediaresearch Slovakia on 1,320 respondents aged 16 and up. Respondents cite hooliganism and vandalism as the most frequent forms of extremist behaviour, the TASR newswire reported.
Up to 5 percent of these 23 percent encounter extremist behaviour daily, 8 percent once per day and 10 percent once per month, said Mária Hlinová, manager of Mediaresearch Slovakia, as cited by TASR.
The survey also showed that more than one third of respondents older than 16 do not encounter extremism at all.
Those who face extremism most frequently are men, younger people and Hungarians. Extremism is most visible in the regions of Bratislava, Banská Bystrica and Nitra, according to the survey.
