The Roma minority has problems with finding employment, with keeping their children in school and with hygienic standards, the Union of Roma in Slovakia, a civic association that brings together about 190 Roma NGOs, stated. The Union also complained about the unwillingness of governmental representatives to communicate with their minority. These are the results of a survey in which over 1,000 Roma took part, the SITA newswire reported.
“Three-quarters of Roma are without work, many of them lack education,” the chairman of the Union of Roma in Slovakia, František Tanko, said as quoted by SITA, adding that those who lack resources tend to commit crimes. “They live in desolate conditions.”
The survey was carried out by the activists from the Union in March and April in Slovak towns and villages. The worst problems of the Roma minority were found in the eastern part of the country, SITA reported. SITA
